Wow, Hogan. What a letter. When I was first reading it, other than the famous part, it sounded like you were talking about my mom--got to hear about all the sex and drugs but none of the stuff that mattered, that made you know what made them tick. I also don't know when the hugs stopped. I think when you treat your kid as a peer, the parent/child intimacy also gets weird--I also think there is shame, the silent violent kind. I really appreciated this read. It's filled with forgivenenss and compassion--something I am trying to have more of. Thanks
